It'd make for gathering good ballistic data on humans and It'd be more humane than locking them in a putrid, stinking cave to writhe in their own feces and throwing away the key like Slick Ric said.

In the case of someone surviving a single shot to the head, just shoot them again.
So it's putting them in a prison cell that's of the poorest quality or shooting them? Those are the only two options?

Well, there's obviously other options. The whole shooting them thing came about from Wagwans post about how it cost almost twice as much to put someone on death row than it does to just keep the inmate imprisoned for life. I was simply suggesting a cost effective alternative.

Can't guarantee a kill straight away with a gun
I remember when I was never shot in the head before...
I don't know if this post is supposed to be sarcastic. But people have survived shots to the head.
Being sentenced to death isn't being sentenced to being shot in the head it's being sentenced to be killed
And I don't know anyone that ever survived that so.............................

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

People barely ever survive being shot in the head, I'm sure they could just make a machine to do it like a cattle gun or something but for people.

Quick and painless and cost effective.

People want to be put back in Prison because it doesn't prepare them for the outside world. The services inside are woefully inefficient. If we focused on improving those services and providing a comprehensive schedule to inmates that improved their problem-solving skills and addressed the issues that were a factor in the crime, as much as possible, there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed to be released if they're deemed fit to enter society again by professionals.

Victims are a good point, but how much of a say should they really have about the treatment of an offender after the case has concluded?

How often do they sink back in to a life of crime though? Would need to see some statistics on how worth it it really is.

'cause if they did something death penalty worthy then they're going to have a real hard time getting a decent job and life will generally be a struggle for them. I'm sure many of them go back to underhanded methods of getting by.
So what was the point in that case, wasting money hurts the economy and hurts every innocent person.

The lives of the innocent and victims of serious crimes surely matter way more?

If some psychopath cut your leg off with a saw at least you could eventually sleep at night knowing they're in the ground.

There's been people who have survived arrows going through their skull and through their brain. Very rarely do people survive being shot to the head, most of them being it grazes their head and does not contact the brain, but unlike arrows bullets deliver massive pressure to whatever location it hits and cause major trauma to vital organs. The brain is the most vital organ, there's no replacement for it. If you have a bullet tearing through your skull, you're not long for this world.

Now, there are many people who have survived shots to the head from birdshot shot out of a shotgun. The birdshot didn't penetrate the skin completely, and since it didn't penetrate the skin it didn't penetrate your skull. Even with buckshot, people have survived because the pellets bounced off their head. They still were hurt pretty badly, but they weren't killed.

Those situations where those happened weren't in executions, though. In an execution you're not going to have the one being executed running around trying to attack you. They'll be kneeling on the ground, and then you pop them in the head.
